Mangaluru, Oct 8: A massive fire broke out at the warehouse of a fish food processing unit in Kotepur, causing losses worth several lakh rupees. Locals alleged that despite having 14 fish mills in operation, basic safety measures such as ambulances and fire brigade vehicles were absent, putting the public at risk.

The fire engulfed the MAP Fish Food warehouse owned by Khadar in the evening. Flames quickly spread inside the warehouse and extended outside, prompting local residents to douse the fire with water in an attempt to control it.

After a long delay, fire brigade vehicles from Mangaluru arrived and took charge of extinguishing the blaze. Ullal police were present at the site.

Locals alleged that the 14 fish food and oil mills operating in the area do not follow safety norms. Neither ambulances nor fire brigade vehicles are available on-site. When such incidents occur, the delay in emergency response poses a serious threat to thousands of nearby residents. Overhead high-tension electric cables also pass near the site, further aggravating the danger. The lack of safety measures, residents said, highlights the owners’ negligence.
