Bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman passes away at 41 following heart attack

Amritsar, Oct 10: Professional bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman, renowned for his muscular physique and notable roles in Hindi and Punjabi films, passed away following a heart attack on Thursday. He was 41.

According to family sources, Ghuman had been experiencing shoulder pain and was admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar for treatment. His nephew, Amanjot Singh Ghuman, informed reporters in Jalandhar that the actor suffered a heart attack around 5 p.m. in the hospital.

A native of Gurdaspur and a resident of Jalandhar, Ghuman rose to fame after winning the prestigious Mr. India title in 2009 and later securing second place in the Mr. Asia pageant.

He made his Bollywood debut in Roar: Tigers of Sundarbans (2014) and went on to feature in films like Marjaavan (2019) and Tiger 3 (2023), where he shared the screen with superstar Salman Khan. In Punjabi cinema, he was best known for his role in Kabaddi Once Again (2012).

Known for promoting fitness and a vegetarian lifestyle, Ghuman was admired by many for his dedication and discipline.

Leaders Condole the Demise

Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum following his sudden demise.

Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu described Ghuman as the “pride of Punjab” and said his passing was an “irreparable loss for the country.”

“Passing away of the pride of Punjab, the ‘He-Man of India’, Varinder Ghuman ji, is an irreparable loss for the country. He set new standards in the world of fitness with his hard work and vegetarian lifestyle. His life will always be a source of inspiration for the youth,” Bittu said on X.

Congress MP and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also expressed grief, saying, “It is heartbreaking to hear the news of the sudden demise of Punjab’s famous bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman. He brought glory to Punjab with his hard work, discipline, and talent. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family to bear this loss.”

Ghuman’s untimely passing has left the film and fitness fraternity in deep shock.
