Mumbai, Oct 10: Former Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) city president Abul Hasan Khan, who joined Congress a few months ago, has been appointed as a vice-president of the Mumbai city Congress, in the latest round of office-bearer appointments announced on Wednesday.
Political analysts view the move as a major boost to Khan’s political career, which had slowed after his exit from the Prakash Ambedkar-led VBA. A businessman and entrepreneur, Khan also heads a charitable trust managing madrassas and a mosque.

Khan, who is reportedly close to Congress city president and MP Varsha Gaikwad, expressed gratitude to the city and central leadership. “I quit VBA because I didn’t see much work either for me or for the people. I had not asked for any post when I joined Congress, but the leadership has entrusted me with an important responsibility. I will try to live up to expectations,” he said.
The Congress hopes the new appointments will energize party cadres in Mumbai ahead of the upcoming civic elections. Along with Khan, the city unit has appointed 34 vice-presidents, four senior vice-presidents, 57 general secretaries, and 78 secretaries.
