Kochi, Oct 10: Indian football fans may soon witness a historic spectacle as the FIFA World Cup champions, Argentina, are set to play a friendly match in Kerala this November, with the possibility of Lionel Messi gracing the field.
Diarmuid Crowley, CEO of Druid Sport — recently appointed as the exclusive commercial representative of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) in the Indian subcontinent — shared details of the much-anticipated event. Druid Sport, an international sports marketing agency, is facilitating the engagement as Argentina gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, which could mark Messi’s final World Cup appearance.

“The upcoming match in Kerala is a milestone for Indian football fans, offering a rare chance to see one of the world’s most celebrated teams live. Commercially, it helps the AFA build stronger local roots and lays the groundwork for future collaborations with regional brands,” Crowley told ANI.
While the venue and Argentina’s opponent are yet to be confirmed, speculation is rife that the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi will host the friendly. Crowley emphasized that fans can expect passion, leadership, and top-tier football from the three-time World Cup winners, even though player selections, including Messi’s presence, have not been disclosed.
If Messi participates, it will mark his first visit to India in 14 years; he last played in Kolkata during a friendly against Venezuela. As part of the GOAT tour in December, the Olympic gold medallist may also visit Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi.
This friendly fixture signals another significant step in the growing footprint of international football in India, giving fans a chance to witness world-class talent up close.
