Dubai, Oct 11: The UAE has swiftly banned the import and sale of ‘Uranus Star’ bottled water, produced in Iran, after two deaths in Oman were linked to contamination of the brand. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) on October 10 confirmed that no permits had ever been issued for the product’s entry or trade within the country.
In an official statement, MoCCAE assured the public that ‘Uranus Star’ water is not present in UAE markets, following inspections at major retail outlets nationwide. The Ministry also announced an intensified review of import records and coordination with food safety authorities across all seven emirates to verify that no shipments had entered through official ports.

“As a precautionary measure, immediate verification and inspection protocols have been activated to safeguard public health,” the Ministry said, urging anyone who may have brought the product from abroad to discard it immediately and strictly avoid consumption.
The warning follows two tragic deaths in Oman — a foreign woman on September 29 and an Omani man on October 1 — after both consumed the contaminated bottled water. Another woman survived following timely medical treatment.
Subsequent investigations by Omani authorities revealed that the water contained amphetamine, a dangerous stimulant that had been deliberately introduced into some bottles. The discovery led to a nationwide recall of the product in Oman and its complete removal from the market.
The UAE’s food safety teams continue to monitor ports and markets closely to prevent any unauthorized entry of the banned product. Public health authorities have reiterated that any Uranus Star bottled water found must be discarded immediately in the interest of public safety.
