Thane, Oct 11: Over Rs 452 crore in unclaimed bank deposits are lying idle in 11.4 lac dormant accounts across Thane district, prompting authorities to launch a special awareness campaign to reunite depositors with their money.
The initiative, titled âClaim Your Unclaimed Depositsâ, is being led by Bank of Maharashtra under the nationwide âYour Wealth, Your Rightâ campaign, run by the Department of Financial Services and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Launched on October 1, the campaign runs until December 31, with all banks in Thane participating through awareness camps and customer outreach drives, according to an official statement.

âThis three-month campaign aims to identify and return these funds to their rightful owners,â said Abhishek Pawar, Lead District Manager for Thane. âDepositors have the full right to reclaim their money along with applicable interest â even if it has been moved to the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund (DEAF).â
To assist in the process, the RBIâs UDGAM portal (https://udgam.rbi.org.in)Â provides a one-stop solution for individuals to search for unclaimed deposits across multiple banks. Alternatively, citizens can visit their bank branches, complete KYC formalities, and submit claim forms.
Pawar urged account holders to check for unclaimed accounts in their name or their family membersâ names and make use of the campaign to recover funds.
The campaign underscores a broader effort to promote financial awareness and inclusion, ensuring that citizens don't lose out on what rightfully belongs to them.
