Chennai, Oct 13: Streaming giant Netflix has announced a special treat for its South Indian subscribers this festive season with the launch of six brand-new Tamil and Telugu original films and series. Aiming to capture the cultural and emotional depth of regional storytelling, the platform revealed a diverse lineup spanning thrillers, dramas, comedies, and folklore-inspired tales.

In a statement released on Monday, Netflix confirmed it will stream the Tamil psychological thriller Stephen, the Telugu comedy Super Subbu, the Tamil romantic drama Love, the self-discovery story Made In Korea, the Telugu folklore thriller Takshakudu, and the Tamil family gangster series Legacy.

Stephen, directed by Mithun and starring Gomathi Shankar, promises to be a dark psychological ride. The film revolves around a psychiatrist’s evaluation of a self-confessed killer, only to find herself pulled into a deeper and more dangerous mystery as the session progresses.

In contrast, Super Subbu, directed by Mallik Ram and featuring Sundeep Kishan, takes a light-hearted route. The Telugu series follows a man awkwardly thrown into the role of a sex education teacher in a remote village, despite being the least suitable person for the task—resulting in a comedy of errors.

Director Balaji Mohan’s Love explores the nuances of modern romance. With Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi in lead roles, this Tamil web series examines an unusual relationship that evolves through an unexpected challenge, blending humour, heart, and sharp observations about contemporary love.

Netflix’s Made In Korea, directed by Ra Karthik, stars Priyanka Mohan and Squid Game's Park Hye-Jin. The story follows a young woman on what is meant to be a dream trip to Korea that goes horribly wrong after a betrayal. Along the way, she builds new friendships and rediscovers herself, offering a heartfelt cross-cultural narrative.

Telugu folklore gets a thrilling edge in Takshakudu, directed by Vinod Anantoju. Anand Devarakonda stars as a blind man who sets out on a quest for vengeance after a tragic incident devastates his village. Accompanied by his faithful dog, the story blends myth, emotion, and suspense.

Rounding off the new slate is Legacy, a high-stakes Tamil gangster drama from director Charukesh Sekar. With an ensemble cast including R. Madhavan, Nimisha Sajayan, Gautham Karthik, Gulshan Devaiah, and Abhishek Banerjee, the series centers around power, betrayal, and succession within a powerful crime family, where protecting an empire could mean sacrificing everything.

Speaking about the announcement, Netflix India’s vice president of Content, Monika Shergill, said the platform remains deeply committed to promoting stories from South India across languages and genres. “From our early originals to films post theatrical release, South Indian storytelling has been key to our growth. These new originals represent the next wave of fresh, ambitious narratives—gritty thrillers, heartfelt romances, culturally rooted dramas—crafted with new voices from Tamil and Telugu cinema. It’s been an inspiring journey with the creative community, and we’re excited to bring these stories to our audiences,” she said.
