Abu Dhabi introduces fully legal online marriages via TAMM App

Abu Dhabi, Oct 15: Couples in Abu Dhabi can now get legally married with just a few taps on their phones, thanks to a new digital marriage service launched on the government’s TAMM app for Dh800 (around $217). The service allows couples anywhere in the world to complete a legally recognized wedding through a secure online ceremony, marking a milestone in the emirate’s smart government initiatives.

The TAMM app, which hosts over 1,100 government and private services on a single platform, enables couples, two witnesses, and a licensed officiant to join a wedding ceremony via WebEx. Guests can participate remotely, and couples living abroad can authorize a local power of attorney to represent them during the ceremony.

Hammad Alhammadi, executive director of TAMM’s customer care and happiness sector, said, “Even if you visit Abu Dhabi, you can log into services through TAMM, and one of them will be the marriage contract. It’s gaining a lot of momentum and is very helpful.”

Couples seeking attested marriage certificates can pay an additional Dh300 for automatic attestation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a digital UAE Pass signature. The process—from document submission to ceremony scheduling—can be completed within 24 hours if appointments and paperwork are ready. Integration with UAE Pass and Emirates ID systems ensures verification of identities and prevents underage or forced marriages.

Mohamed Al Askar, head of the TAMM app, told AFP at Gitex Global 2025: “It’s open to everyone. Anyone wanting to marry in Abu Dhabi, regardless of nationality, can do so online without visiting any physical location. We are among the first to do this.”

The UAE is the only Gulf nation allowing foreigners to enter non-religious marriages, and this initiative reinforces Abu Dhabi’s leadership in digital governance. Inspired by Covid-19-era services and global innovations, the TAMM platform is among the world’s first to offer fully remote civil marriages across borders.

His Excellency Ahmed Tamim Hisham Al Kuttab, Chairman of the Department of Government Enablement, said: “TAMM AutoGov is transformative, redefining government as intelligent, human-centered, and present at the moments that matter most. With the world’s first transactional AI public servant, Abu Dhabi shows what anticipatory government looks like.”

Abu Dhabi’s online marriage service through the TAMM app provides a modern, convenient, and legally recognized way to wed, backed by government oversight and digital certification, highlighting the emirate’s vision for smart governance.
