Saudi Arabia marks World Sight Month with awareness drive

Riyadh, Oct 16: Saudi Arabia is focusing on eye health and the rights of visually impaired individuals throughout October, coinciding with World Sight Day and White Cane Safety Day. These global observances aim to raise awareness about blindness, promote preventive care, and encourage early detection through regular eye check-ups, especially for older adults.

As part of the campaign, the Ebsar Foundation, dedicated to supporting people with visual impairments, is implementing educational and community programs nationwide. Amal Al-Hunaiti, CEO of the foundation, said the month-long initiative seeks to enhance public understanding of vision health and foster inclusive social practices.

Key activities include a special program for mothers of children with visual impairments, focusing on empowering them with knowledge and strategies to better support their children at home and in society. Recreational outings for visually impaired youth are also planned to combine enjoyment with public education on interacting empathetically with blind individuals.

Later this month, the foundation will participate in the Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh, highlighting its advocacy for accessible eye care and preventive health services. The initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to vision health, inclusion, and public awareness.
