New York, Oct 17: Diwali celebrations lit up cities across the United States this week, with mayors, governors, and diplomats joining the Indian community to honor the festival of lights and its message of hope, harmony, and cultural unity.

In New York City, Mayor Eric Adams hosted a vibrant Diwali event at his official residence, Gracie Mansion, warmly welcoming members of the Indian diaspora and praising their invaluable contributions to the city’s cultural and economic fabric. Representing the Consulate General of India in New York, Deputy Consul General Vishal Jayeshbhai Harsh conveyed heartfelt festive wishes, emphasizing Diwali’s enduring symbolism of light, joy, and resilience. The Indian Consulate later shared the moment on social media, describing the evening as a joyous celebration of shared values and community spirit.

Meanwhile, in Tallahassee, the Florida Capitol witnessed its first-ever Diwali celebration, attended by a host of state officials, dignitaries, and prominent members of the Indian American community. The Indian Consul (Education) and Head of Chancery from Atlanta represented India at the historic event, which highlighted India’s rich cultural traditions and the growing recognition of its global diaspora.

Earlier, New York Governor Kathy Hochul joined the Indian community at the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Flushing, extending festive greetings and celebrating the cultural diversity that defines the state. Deputy Consul General Harsh thanked the Governor for her continued engagement with and support for the Indian diaspora.

In Houston, Diwali was celebrated with equal enthusiasm at City Hall, where Indian Consul General D.C. Manjunath joined Mayor John Whitmire for an evening of cultural exchange and celebration. The Consul General expressed gratitude to the mayor and city officials for embracing Diwali and promoting inclusivity. The event featured a performance of the classical Indian dance form Kathak, showcasing the depth and elegance of Indian artistry.
