Jabalpur, Oct 19: An unusual incident at Jabalpur railway station on Friday, October 17, around 5:30 pm, has triggered widespread debate on social media after a scuffle broke out between a passenger and a samosa vendor over a failed digital payment.

A viral video shows the passenger buying samosas from a vendor on platform number 5 and attempting to pay via UPI. When the transaction failed and the train began to move, the passenger tried to return the samosas and reboard the train. The vendor, however, grabbed him by the collar and demanded payment, refusing to let him go.

The video further shows the anxious passenger explaining the failed transaction before removing his smartwatch and handing it to the vendor, who then gave him two plates of samosas and released him.

Following the uproar online, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Jabalpur confirmed that the vendor had been identified and detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). “Action is also being taken to cancel the licence of the licensee,” the DRM said.

The incident sparked public outrage, with netizens criticising the vendor’s behaviour and raising concerns over passenger safety at railway stations. “The boy clearly wasn’t taking the samosa, yet the vendor assaulted him,” one user wrote. Another added, “Cash is still critical—you can’t depend entirely on virtual money.”

The railway authorities have assured strict action to prevent such incidents in the future.
