Mangaluru, Oct 19: The Mangaluru police have arrested a young woman accused of blackmailing others using videos of women changing clothes.

The arrested accused, identified as Nireeksha, originally from Chikkamagaluru, had been residing in a rented house in Kankanady, Mangaluru. She was taken into custody on Sunday, October 19, following a complaint filed at the Kadri police station.

According to police sources, Nireeksha allegedly filmed videos of young women in compromising situations and used them to threaten and extort money. Her name had also surfaced earlier in connection with the honey trap allegations linked to the Udupi–Karkala Nitte Abhishek Acharya suicide case.

Abhishek Acharya, who had recently died by suicide in Belman, had reportedly mentioned Nireeksha and a few others in his death note, alleging harassment. Following the revelations, there was widespread outrage on social media, with users demanding her immediate arrest.

The accused was produced before a magistrate on Sunday, who remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody.

Police sources said further investigation is underway to determine her role in both the blackmail and the honey trap cases.
