Five arrested for gambling with roosters in Manipal

Manipal, Oct 21: In a raid conducted by Manipal Police, five persons were arrested for engaging in illegal gambling involving roosters and cash stakes in Hirebettu village near Manipal.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a public shed at Ballatta in Hirebettu, where the accused were reportedly conducting a rooster gambling game by placing bets in cash. Those arrested have been identified as Shekhar Poojary and Ganapathi Naik of Hirebettu, Ravi Shetty, Suresh Poojary of 80 Badagabettu, and Erappa Nalke of Athradi.

During the operation, the police seized several items including thousands of rupees in cash, mobile phones, two-wheelers, and different breeds of roosters used for the gambling activity.

A case has been registered at the Manipal Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
