Mysuru, Oct 24: In a remarkable display of vigilance and speed, the Mysuru Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully rescued a kidnapped child within just 30 minutes on Thursday morning, reuniting the child safely with its parents.

At approximately 5:20 am, constable C M Nagaraju noticed a woman crying near the entrance gate of Mysuru railway station, claiming that her child had gone missing. “I immediately alerted my superiors and began scanning CCTV footage,” Nagaraju said.

The CCTV footage soon revealed a woman, around 50 years old, carrying the child and attempting to board Train No. 16206 from Platform No. 6. The RPF team, acting swiftly under the guidance of ASI Prasi and Inspector Dinesh Kumar, intercepted the woman by 5:50 am, rescued the child, and handed them back to its relieved parents.

The accused, identified as Devika (name changed), a resident of Hassan, was taken into custody by the GRP railway police.

A case has been registered against her under Section 137(b) of the Indian Penal Code, and she has been remanded to judicial custody.

This operation was conducted under “Operation Nanhe Farishte”, a South Western Railway initiative aimed at locating missing or kidnapped children and reuniting them with their families.

Officials noted that the swift success of the operation underscores the alertness of the RPF personnel, the efficiency of their coordinated team action, and the critical role of CCTV surveillance.

Across the South Western Railway zone, a total of 2,043 CCTV cameras are installed across 152 stations, covering platforms and other critical areas.

The Hubballi division has 859 cameras across 63 stations, the Bengaluru division has 586 cameras across 27 stations, and the Mysuru division has 598 cameras across 62 stations. This advanced surveillance network enables rapid detection, crime prevention, and prompt emergency response.

To further strengthen passenger security, South Western Railway has implemented several measures.

In the Bengaluru division, 55 additional RPF/RPSF personnel have been deployed, and two rapid response teams have been stationed at Krishnarajapuram and SMVT Bengaluru to enhance vigilance, the railway authority stated.
