Mangalore: Yogish Bhat Supports MSEZ Land Acquisition

Mangalore, Feb 15: It may be recalled that land acquisition proceedings for the second phase of Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) had been cancelled at the instance of Pejavar Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji, MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and several BJP-supported organizations. Contrary this, deputy speaker in the state assembly, N Yogish Bhat, extended his support for issuance of land acquisition notification again for MSEZ.

In the programme, ‘Export Vision – 2020’, union minister, M Veerappa Moily, expressed the opinion that time is ripe to notify the lands which had earlier been denotified for MSEZ, as the compensation package offered by the government is much more lucrative now. He also said that 80 percent of farmers have volunteered to sacrifice their land for MSEZ. Supporting Moily’s initiative, Yogish Bhat said that the government should take steps to acquire land wherever the farmers are agreeable to give their land.

    Trust the politicians to appease their bread and butter providers, the business lobby.
    Mr.Yogish Bhat is a business man.And Mr.Moily was never a farmer and an ardent advocate of industry people since the days of Late Devraj Urs.

    Let that be so. Times have changed. There is no land acquisition for any genuine public interest. All acquisitions are purely for business purposes, as even for roads tolls are collected to recover the money spent by Governments.
    Don't make any mistake about business men's intentions. Not all who invest in SEZ or in acquired lands are going to fulfill his obligation of employement to local or make a profit and contribute taxes. Their real investment is in the lands cheaply provided by the Government by exploiting the hapless agriculturists and make a killing even if the business goes under loss.
    But then genuine businessmen should be provided all the infrastructure but never at the cost of the Farmers.
    For Business people it is just money but for the Agriculturist, it is the loss of theirs'and their children's livelihood,forever.

    it is high-time, for the those who are proposing and opposing land acquisition to be fair and just.

    If at all the Government or Business people want the Agriculturists' lands they should pay a fair price of Rs.One lakh per cent/ One Crore per acre. This is no exorbitant price compared to what the Government pays to land owners in and nearby Bangalore.
    Alternatively, the Government or the Businessman who gets the land should have the option of getting the land on lease, the lease payable at Rs.10000/-per cent per year/ i.e, 10% bank rate. The lands' ownership must rest with the Farmer. Banks should not lend to the business on the mortgage of lands but purely on the strength and weakness of the business. For houses and buildings acquired, the compensation should be valued at replacement cost. It is time the Pejavar Swamiji consider these suggestions and lead for such a solution. Genuine businessmen,wont oppose.
