Moodbidri: Pickpockets Make Merry at JD(S) Convention

Moodbidri, Feb 15: It is learnt that a few participants at the JD(S) convention held here on Sunday February 13, lost over Rs 1.5 lac during the convention.

A person named Munir from Mulky Karnad, in his complaint, said that Rs 75,000 he carried in his pocket had been stolen by unknown thieves. In this connection, the police have arrested a person named Rama from Shimoga on the basis of suspicion. The accused said he had been to Manipal to visit the ailing mother of his friend, who is undergoing treatment there. During his visit, he claimed he decided to visit the convention venue, and said he was not involved with any theft.

Vasant Shetty from Mijar lost Rs 33,000, Nityanand Shetty lost Rs 16,000, Abdul Latif from Moodbidri became poorer by Rs 3,000, while thieves took away Rs 25,000 reportedly belonging to Jerald Mendis.

Out of the above, only Munir filed an official complaint with the police, it is gathered.
