Mangaluru, Oct 28: Milagres College of Nursing, in association with Our Lady of Miracles Church, organised a meaningful and impactful awareness programme on World Osteoporosis Day 2025. The event aimed to educate senior parishioners on bone health, the importance of maintaining strong bones, and preventive strategies against osteoporosis.
The programme began with a holy Mass, seeking divine blessings for the success of the initiative, followed by a solemn prayer service.
Dr Flossy Rayappan delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for an informative and engaging session. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the spreading of knowledge, awareness, and health.




















A special highlight was the unveiling of the official theme of World Osteoporosis Day 2025, “It’s Unacceptable,” by Dion, a first-year BSc nursing student. The theme served as a strong reminder of the urgent need to raise awareness and encourage responsible actions toward bone health.
Dr Diana Lobo, principal of Milagres College of Nursing, introduced the chief guest, Dr Vivian Roshan D’Almeida, unit chief, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru.
Dr D’Almeida delivered an insightful keynote address on osteoporosis, elaborating on its causes, risk factors, and preventive measures. He emphasised the significance of regular physical activity, a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, and timely health check-ups to prevent bone-related disorders.
The presidential address was delivered by Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, correspondent, who appreciated the initiative and encouraged everyone to take proactive steps toward bone health.
As part of the event, free bone density tests and discounted vitamin D Tests were organised, enabling participants to assess their bone health. Additionally, interactive games were conducted for the senior parishioners, making the event both educational and enjoyable.
The programme saw the active participation of 140 attendees, reflecting their enthusiasm and interest in the topic. The event was compered by Anushka, a BSc Nursing student, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Rhyna.
Overall, the programme effectively combined education, health screening, and community engagement, leaving a lasting impact on all participants about the importance of bone health and osteoporosis.
