Udupi: Manipal College of Nursing Tops in Implementation of project on HIV/AIDS

Udupi, Feb 15: Manipal College of Nursing here has bagged the first place in the implementation of GFATM (Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria) project on HIV/AIDS for the year 2011 at national level. The award was received at Review and Implementation meeting held at Jaipur recently. Dr Anice George, Dean Manipal College of Nursing and Prabhath M Kalkura project coordinator, GFATM project Manipal received the award from Dr Asha Sharma vice president Indian Nursing Council. T Dileep Kumar, president and K S Bharati, joint secretary of Indian Nursing Council, Dr S N Misra and Dr Dileep Vaswani.

The Indian Nursing Council is implementing a project titled “Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Nursing Training on HIV/AIDS in India” in coordination with National AIDS Control organization and is supported by Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM 7).

The project will be implemented through 55 sub sub-recipients across India. Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal is one of the sub sub-recipient under this project. The main aim of the project is to strengthen human and institutional capacities of the National Health System to accelerate the implementation of the National Aids Control Program III focusing on nurses from peripheral level by disseminating the information regarding HIV/AIDS, support, care and treatment protocol thus contributing towards the development of public health in India. Manipal College of Nursing is covering seven districts in South Karnataka.

There are seven faculty who underwent Training of Trainers under this project to train staff nurses. Till date Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal has conducted 51 training sessions for Training of Nurses on HIV/ AIDS and ART and has trained 1742 staff nurses from different districts of Karnataka state. Training of Nurses has representatives from both private as well as government sector.

Technical advisors to GFATM project were present on the occasion.
