Imphal, Oct 30: Manipur has recorded 129 new dengue cases, pushing the total count this year to 3,594, officials said on Thursday. One fatality has been reported from Bishnupur district.

According to State Malaria Officer S. Priyokumar Singh, the Health Department has been following National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) guidelines to contain the outbreak, which has worsened due to prolonged monsoon rains and stagnant water fostering mosquito breeding.

Data from the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control shows that Manipur had reported 2,463 cases and five deaths in 2024, marking a sharp rise this year.

Between January 1 and October 28, 7,883 people were tested for dengue, out of which 3,594 tested positive. Imphal West remains the worst-hit district with 2,507 cases, followed by Imphal East (655), Bishnupur (102), and Thoubal (84).

Authorities have stepped up fogging, awareness drives, and clean-up operations across high-risk areas. Citizens are being urged to remove stagnant water, maintain hygiene, and use mosquito repellents and nets to prevent further spread.

Health officials have also advised residents to seek immediate medical care if they experience high fever, body pain, or rashes, the common symptoms of dengue.
