Washington, Oct 31: The White House transformed into a festive wonderland on Thursday evening as US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted a vibrant Halloween celebration, welcoming hundreds of children and families  including superheroes, dinosaurs, and even presidential lookalikes.

The event, held on the South Lawn and streamed live on the White House’s YouTube channel, unfolded amid an ongoing government shutdown that has now stretched into its 30th day. Despite the political deadlock, the festive spirit remained high as the First Couple greeted guests to the tunes of an orchestral version of Michael Jackson’s iconic Thriller.

President Trump, dressed in his signature blue suit, red tie, and a red “USA” cap, was joined by Melania Trump, who looked elegant in an orange dress paired with a brown overcoat. Although they skipped traditional costumes, the duo charmed guests as they handed out full-sized Hershey bars and Twizzlers to children, the treats packed in boxes featuring the presidential seal.

A moment that caught social media’s attention was a video clip showing President Trump interacting with a child dressed as a marshmallow, sparking laughter among attendees.

The White House wore an autumn-inspired look, adorned with bright orange and red chrysanthemums, artificial leaves, and intricately carved pumpkins lining the grand staircase. The decorations added a touch of warmth and color to the chilly evening.

Despite ongoing trade tensions and tariffs on China which, according to reports, caused a spike in Halloween costume prices this year the celebration saw a large turnout. Among the guests were children of military personnel and White House staff.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt attended the event with her son, adorably dressed as a pumpkin. Former aide Katie Miller embraced the Halloween spirit as a skeleton, while her husband, Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, chose a formal suit for the evening.

The Trumps’ Halloween celebration, coming just hours after the President’s return from a six-day Asia tour, brought a much-needed dose of festivity and lightheartedness to Washington amid political uncertainty.
