Mumbai, Nov 8: Zarine Khan, wife of veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Khan and mother of Zayed Khan and Sussanne Khan, passed away on Friday at the age of 81 due to age-related ailments. She breathed her last at her residence in Mumbai, surrounded by her family.
Zarine, who had reportedly been unwell for some time, is survived by her husband Sanjay Khan (85) and their four children — Sussanne Khan, Farah Ali Khan, Simone Arora, and Zayed Khan.

Born Zarine Katrak, she began her career as a model and actor, appearing in Hindi films like Tere Ghar Ke Saamne and Ek Phool Do Mali. She is fondly remembered for her role as Dev Anand’s secretary in Tere Ghar Ke Saamne. Zarine later transitioned into a successful interior designer and also authored a cookbook titled Family Secret, reflecting her passion for cooking.
The funeral took place at Juhu Crematorium, attended by close family members and friends. Her son Zayed Khan performed the last rites, struggling to hold back tears, while her daughters Sussanne, Farah, and Simone stood by their father, Sanjay Khan, who appeared deeply grief-stricken.
Several Bollywood celebrities, including Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukerji, Kajol, Jaya Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Shabana Azmi, Bobby Deol, Neelam Kothari, Rakul Preet Singh, and Jackky Bhagnani, visited the Khan residence to offer condolences.
Zarine’s daughter and renowned jewellery designer Farah Ali Khan penned a heartfelt tribute, writing, “Celebrating Zarine Khan, my mother who plays so many roles effortlessly. My greatest gift and blessing from God Almighty. She is kind, caring, generous, and loving. Her random acts of charity and her ability to forgive and forget make her special.”
Zarine and Sanjay Khan, who reportedly met for the first time at a bus stop, got married in 1966. Her recent 81st birthday was celebrated warmly by her family, with Sussanne sharing a touching post calling her mother her guiding light and biggest blessing.
The film and design fraternity continue to mourn the loss of Zarine Khan, remembered for her grace, warmth, and artistic legacy.
