Mumbai, Nov 14: A 50-year-old man with a long criminal record has been arrested by the Samta Nagar Police for stealing cash and gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 1.5 lakh from a woman’s handbag while she was travelling on a BEST bus.
The accused, identified as Suresh Pawar, has over 10 previous cases registered against him, police officials said. The theft occurred on November 9.
The victim, a 26-year-old homemaker from Kandivali East, was travelling on bus number A-478 from Goregaon to the Mahindra company gate in Kandivali East between 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. She later discovered that the valuables in her handbag — including jewellery and cash — had gone missing, prompting her to file a complaint.

Acting under the guidance of DCP Mahesh Chimte, police teams traced and arrested Pawar on November 11. Officers recovered jewellery valued at ?1 lakh from his possession. Pawar, who resides in Appapada, Kurar Village in Malad East, is currently in custody as further investigation continues.
