Mumbai, Nov 15: In a deeply distressing Children’s Day tragedy, a 12-year-old girl from Vasai died after allegedly being subjected to severe corporal punishment for reaching school just ten minutes late. The incident has triggered widespread outrage across Maharashtra, with parents, locals, and political groups demanding stern action.

According to sources, Kajal Gond, a Class 6 student of Shree Hanumant Vidya Mandir High School, was punished by her teacher on Friday and forced to perform 100 sit-ups. Family members alleged that Kajal was also made to keep her schoolbag on her back, further straining her body.

Moments after completing the punishment, Kajal complained of intense lower back pain. Upon returning home, her condition worsened rapidly. She was initially admitted to a hospital in Nalasopara but later shifted to JJ Hospital in Mumbai as her health deteriorated. Despite efforts by the medical team, Kajal tragically passed away during treatment.

The grieving family blamed the harsh punishment for her sudden decline, stating that the excessive physical strain directly contributed to her death.

The shocking incident has sparked anger among locals. Parents gathered outside the school demanding accountability, while political groups stepped in. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) announced that the school would not be allowed to reopen until a criminal case is filed against the teacher and management.

Police inquiries are underway, and further action is expected as the investigation progresses.

Very very sad incident which could have avoided her death. Some teachers are really not to tolerate.Extreem harsh. Now this teacher must be arrested immediately and make her too 100sit ups with a bag.But later should be thrown out .No student should die because of her.Heartfelt sympathies to the family.Even I experienced in our family one girl was going to convent school at Nirmarga. As she was sick couldnt attend school had severe fever.Nextday as she returned teacher made her write the notes six times as Punishment.?She was already so sick ,and this?Dont they have any heart or understanding?Would they also treat their children too same way?Heartfelt sympathies to family.Poor girls soul may rest in peace.
