Mumbai, Nov 16: The St John Konkani Community (SJKC) serving at St John the Evangelist Church, Marol, Andheri East, organised a special screening of the Konkani film ‘Payan’ at PVR (Sangam Cinema), Chakala, Andheri East.
The film, produced by Neeta John Peris under the banner of Sangeet Ghar Productions, Mangaluru, and conceptualised and musically composed by noted musician Melwyn Peris, is based on timeless traditions.
The film screening was arranged to raise funds for the Health and Welfare Fund of a needy young woman from Marol. Present at the event were Fr Andrew Alva, assistant parish priest of Vincent Pallotti Church, Vijayanagar, Marol; Deacon Arun Gonsalves, Fr Francis Fernandes (SVD), Clive Dias Barkuru (former councilor of BMC), entrepreneurs Gabriel Mendonca (Belman) and Francis Rasquinha (Padu), Model Bank directors Vincent Mathias (Attur) and Clement A Lobo (Nakkre), Konkan Association Charitable Trust’s president Leo Fernandes Jerimeri, film director, producers Melwyn Peris and Harry Fernandes Barkur, Eugine Monteiro Bhandup (grandfather of cricketer Jemimah) among other dignitaries. SJKC Office Bearers welcomed and honoured the guests with floral bouquets.

































Also present on the occasion were Stanley Saldanha Ghatkopar, Walter D’Souza Kalmady (Jerimeri), Richard Peris, Alwyn Lobo (Active), Charles D’Cunha, Bro Lawrence D’Souza and many others who watched the movie and contributed generously to the health fund. They lauded the organizers for their noble initiative of bringing people together through entertainment while extending personal financial assistance to a young woman in need.
The programme was attended by SJKC vice presidents Hilda Pereira and Jessy Fernandes general secretary Lavina Padinjaratala, treasurer Thelma D’Sa, joint secretary John Lobo, joint treasurer Jaya Veera C Monteiro, legal advisor Lawrence D’Souza (Kemmannu), executive committee members Edwin A.Soares, Thomas Pereira, James P D’Sa, Alice B D’Souza, Claudy Francis Monteiro, Gretta D D’Silva, Hilda V Mathias, Leena W Lasrado, Violet E Lobo among others.
President Sunita A Soares delivered the welcome address and compared the event. The chief coordinator Claudy Montero proposed the vote of thanks.
