Doha, Nov 18: Oman’s rising cricketers Samay Shrivastava and Aryan Bisht are eagerly waiting to meet India’s new teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi as both teams prepare for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars clash in Doha on Tuesday.

Suryavanshi arrives in stunning form after hammering a record-breaking 144 off 42 balls against UAE, smashing 11 fours and 15 sixes at a strike rate of 342.85 — making it the joint-second fastest T20 century by an Indian and the joint-fifth fastest globally. He followed it with a brisk 45 off 28 balls against Pakistan Shaheens.

“We’ve only seen him on TV. When you’re 14 and able to hit the ball that far, that’s exceptional. 14 saal ke ho, kaise maarte ho ye chakke?” Aryan said, looking forward to sharing the field with the youngster.

Samay, who represented Madhya Pradesh before moving to Oman, said he wants to understand Vaibhav’s mindset. “He’s only 14 and already doing so well. The way he hits those big sixes is extraordinary.”

Oman Duo’s India roots

Aryan, born in Oman to a family from Uttarakhand, trained in India during his school years before rising through Oman’s Under-19 ranks. His father shifted to Oman in the early 2000s, and Aryan credits India for shaping his cricket foundation.

Samay, born in Bhopal, played domestic cricket in India before shifting to Oman, where he has become a key leg-spinner. A devoted fan of Shane Warne, Samay says he modelled his bowling and mental approach on the spin legend. He has also played alongside Indian stars like Venkatesh Iyer, Rajat Patidar and Ashutosh Sharma in age-group tournaments.

Both youngsters were part of Oman’s squad in the 2025 Asia Cup, which India won by defeating Pakistan — and now they are excited to take on India’s newest batting prodigy on the big stage.
