Washington/New Delhi, Nov 20: In a significant boost to India–US defence cooperation, the United States has approved a potential sale of Javelin missile systems, Excalibur guided projectiles and associated equipment to India, valued at an estimated $92.8 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on Wednesday confirmed that it has submitted the necessary certifications, formally notifying the US Congress of the proposed sale.
According to the DSCA, the approval aligns with Washington’s foreign policy and national security objectives, and further strengthens the strategic partnership between India and the United States.

The transaction is divided into two major packages.
The first package, worth $45.7 million, includes Javelin FGM-148 missiles under the fly-to-buy category, along with 25 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units (LwCLU) or Block 1 Command Launch Units. It also covers simulation rounds, operator manuals, technical documentation, battery coolant units, tool kits, physical security inspection, spare parts, lifecycle support, training modules and refurbishment services.
The second package approves the possible sale of Excalibur precision-guided projectiles and related equipment at an estimated value of $47.1 million. India has requested up to 216 M982A1 tactical projectiles, along with ancillary components such as Portable Electronic Fire Control Systems (PEFCS), primers, propellant charges, technical data, repair-and-return services and US government technical assistance.
The DSCA stated that the sale will enhance India’s ability to counter current and emerging threats, bolster homeland defence and strengthen India’s role as a stabilising force in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia. It further noted that the addition of these systems will be easily absorbed into India’s existing military structure and will not disturb the regional military balance.
The agency also confirmed that the sale will not affect US defence readiness.
