Ranbir faces trolls over viral ‘Dining with the Kapoors’ video

Mumbai, Nov 24: Actor Ranbir Kapoor has once again become a target of social media trolling after a clip from the Netflix special Dining With The Kapoors surfaced online. The episode, celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of cinematic legend Raj Kapoor, shows the Kapoor family enjoying a lavish meal — prompting trolls to accuse Ranbir of contradicting his earlier claims about giving up non-vegetarian food.

In the viral video, Armaan Jain is seen serving fish curry rice, junglee mutton, paya and vegetarian dishes to a large gathering of the Kapoor clan. Ranbir is seated alongside Neetu Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Rima Jain, Saif Ali Khan and others. Although the scenes are wide shots with no clear focus on Ranbir’s plate, online users claimed he was consuming non-vegetarian food.

The controversy stems from an old 2023 interview where Ranbir, who had not yet begun shooting for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, revealed he had quit non-veg food, alcohol and smoking as part of a lifestyle change after welcoming his daughter, Raha. “I have become vegetarian… I’m trying to clean up my life. In my 40s, trying to be healthy for my kid and for myself,” he had said at the time.

However, trolls now allege that Ranbir’s PR team deliberately promoted the narrative that he gave up non-veg to honour his role as Lord Ram. One user commented, “Ranbir Kapoor’s PR team claimed he gave up non-vegetarian food out of respect for playing Lord Ram, but he is seen enjoying fish curry, mutton and paya. He has the most effective PR in Bollywood.” Another wrote, “If PR teams had kept quiet back then, they wouldn’t be facing this backlash now.”

The video continues to circulate widely, sparking heated debates among fans and critics over celebrity image-building and online scrutiny.
