Trump calls DC national guard shooting “Act of Terror”; blames Biden-Era Afghanistan evacuation

Washington, Nov 27: US President Donald Trump has condemned the shooting of two National Guardsmen near the White House as “an act of terror” and “a crime against humanity”, while sharply criticising former president Joe Biden for allowing the suspected gunman into the country during the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation.

Addressing the media, President Trump described the attack as a direct assault on the nation.

“This was a heinous assault and an act of evil, an act of hatred and an act of terror. It was a crime against our entire nation. It was a crime against humanity,” he said.

Trump said the Department of Homeland Security had confirmed that the suspect—29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal—entered the United States via the 2021 Operation Allies Welcome airlift.

“I can report tonight that based on the best available information, the Department of Homeland Security is confident that the suspect in custody is a foreigner who entered our country from Afghanistan — a hellhole on earth,” Trump said.

The President firmly placed blame on the Biden administration:

“He was flown in by the Biden administration in September 2021. My administration will now re-examine every single alien who entered our country from Afghanistan during Biden’s presidency.”

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Trump expressed solidarity with the National Guard and issued a stern warning toward the accused shooter, whom he referred to as an “animal.”
“The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen… will pay a very steep price,” he wrote.

“God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement… I am with you!” he added.

In response to the incident, Trump ordered the deployment of 500 additional National Guard members to Washington DC, further strengthening the already heavy troop presence in the capital.

The attack has intensified political debate over immigration, the Afghanistan withdrawal, and the role of federal troops in domestic policing—issues that continue to polarise Washington as the investigation into the shooting unfolds.
