Sarnaik orders suspension of Solapur depot manager over filthy toilets, poor facilities

Solapur, Nov 28: Maharashtra Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik on Friday conducted a surprise inspection at the Solapur Central Bus Stand and ordered the immediate suspension of the depot manager after discovering gross negligence in maintaining basic passenger amenities.

During the visit, Sarnaik found the toilets in an appalling and foul-smelling condition, with broken tiles and no active upkeep by the private agency responsible for sanitation. The drinking water point nearby was equally neglected, with only one out of five taps functioning.

When questioned, both the depot manager and the traffic controller failed to give satisfactory answers, prompting Sarnaik to direct the MSRTC Vice Chairman and Managing Director to suspend the depot manager without delay.

The minister noted that during a surprise inspection last week, he had already instructed officials to fix the issues and improve passenger facilities. He had also warned that a follow-up check would be conducted, yet no corrective action was taken by the local administration.

Sarnaik has now issued a statewide directive to all 251 MSRTC depot heads, stressing that negligence—especially concerning passenger amenities and women’s toilet condition—will not be tolerated going forward.
