Three held as Vittal police raid illegal cockfighting bet in Veerakamba

Bantwal, Nov 30: Vittal police raided an illegal cockfighting and gambling spot at Patratota in Veerakamba village and took three persons into custody.

The police have detained Umesh (38) of Idkidu, Annu (38) of Ananthady and Umesh (30) of Veerakamba, while a search is underway for the others involved.

Based on a tip-off that a group was illegally gambling by placing bets on cockfights, B S Nayak, police sub-inspector of Vittal station, along with his staff, reached the spot. At the public grazing ground, several men were found gathered and placing bets while conducting the cockfight.

During the inspection, police recovered Rs 2,100 in cash used for gambling. They also seized five roosters used for the cockfight, along with knives and strings tied to them. All seized items have been taken into custody.

A case has been registered at the Vittal police station.
