Kapu, Dec 1: In a filmy-style incident, a lorry from Andhra Pradesh that was dumping garbage along the roadside within Kaup town municipality limits was chased down and forced to clean up the mess it created on Monday.

The lorry, travelling towards Udupi, had stopped near the Koppalangadi Community Hall on the National Highway, where the driver and cleaner were seen throwing garbage onto the roadside. Local residents noticed the act, recorded videos, and instructed them not to dump waste in the area. Ignoring the warning, the driver dumped the entire load of garbage and drove away, brushing aside the locals’ objections.

Residents immediately alerted Kaup town municipality. Acting swiftly, municipal member Anil Kumar gathered information and chased the lorry, with assistance from Katapady police. The vehicle was intercepted near the junction.

The driver admitted to the offence and pleaded not to be punished. However, municipal officials, along with the member, brought the lorry back to the dumping spot and made the driver clear all the garbage he had thrown.

A fine of Rs 2,000 was imposed on the driver, who was also warned against repeating the offence. The proactive action by Kaup municipality has earned high appreciation from the local residents.
