Kolkata, Dec 1: The Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested two smugglers and seized 20 gold biscuits valued at over Rs 3.02 crore along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s North 24-Parganas district, officials said on Monday.
The operation took place on Sunday around 4 p.m. at the Ghojadanga checkpost, where troops of the 102 Battalion under the South Bengal Frontier intercepted a truck based on prior intelligence inputs.
During a thorough search, BSF personnel discovered a concealed packet inside the cabin. Inside it were 20 gold biscuits weighing a total of 2,332.845 grams and valued at Rs 3,02,10,343.

The two arrested individuals, residents of North 24-Parganas, told officials they work as labourers and drivers in a brick kiln. They claimed the gold had been handed to them by an unknown person and were instructed to deliver it beyond the checkpost in exchange for money.
The gold, the truck, and the accused have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further legal action.
A senior BSF official lauded the troops’ alertness and reiterated the force’s commitment to curbing cross-border smuggling. He also urged people living in border areas to report smuggling activities via BSF’s Seema Sathi helpline (14419) or WhatsApp number 9903472227, assuring confidentiality and rewards for credible information.
