Udupi: Puttige Math submits five key demands to PM Modi for coastal development

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Dec 2: Seeking the overall development of the coastal region, the Paryaya Puttige Math has submitted five major demands to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including the introduction of Udupi–Mangaluru metro service and the establishment of an airport in Udupi.

During the Laksha Kantha Geetha Parayana programme held on November 28, Paryaya Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji and junior pontiff Sri Sushreendra Teertha Swamiji presented the demands to the Prime Minister.

To strengthen public transport, the Math requested a metro service connecting the twin cities of Udupi and Mangaluru. It was also proposed that an international airport be established on the 1,000-acre land reserved near Padubidri, which would benefit the region’s trade, education, healthcare and religious tourism.

Udupi district has nearly 100 km of coastline and several key ports, including Malpe. The Math highlighted the potential for developing an international-standard port. It urged the centre to review and ease CRZ norms, which would help boost seafood exports, tourism and the fisheries sector.

Udupi, being a hub of educational and technical institutions, was proposed as a suitable location for an IT Park and an AI Innovation Park under the Digital India and Startup India initiatives. The Math also sought support for cloud-computing infrastructure development.

The petition further emphasized that Kambala, the traditional buffalo race of coastal Karnataka, deserves recognition as a national sport. It requested financial support and infrastructure development through various central schemes to promote the region’s growth.

Bullet train that goes faster than the frightfully fast Udupi-Mangalore buses is required. ...everytime i board the bus, I whisper a silent prayer that I will arrive in one piece at my destination.

Genuine demands. But, as long as Immoral Rowdies exists in these dual districts, do not expect tourism/hospitality industry growth.

As a leader of the country Modiji has to listen to religious heads of other communities too. Furthermore , today 2nd District is seeking International Airport for the convenience of their people and on such perspectives, time may arise other District too insist on following the suit. Let the influential people request Modiji to ensure that direct flights are continued to all the GCC destinations and vise versa.

Reasonable demands from the holy priest. But is the demand for international airport at Padubidri reasonable while already there is an international airport in nearby Mangalore in close proximity. May be somewhere as far as Kundapur or little beyond could be a reasonable option.

Good job to put a request forward to vishwa guru which is an high time for Mangalore UDupi to make an IT hub than petroleum and chemical hub. Sure international airport is a top priority for bigger airlines to land than only for domestic flights. Mangalore is a major destination for many travellers but due to lack of initiatives for international airlines to land people are using alternate routes than Mangalore as a final destination similar Bombay or Bangalore . Good job by swamiji
