Bihar Railway police bust child-lifting gang, six arrested, doctor kingpin on the run

Patna, Dec 4: The Muzaffarpur Railway Police cracked a major child-lifting racket on Thursday, arresting six people — including three women — and safely rescuing a kidnapped boy. The alleged mastermind, a doctor, remains absconding, and multiple police teams are searching for him.

Railway SP Veena Kumari said the case began on October 3, 2025, when Sumit Kumar, who was sleeping with his family on Platform 1 of Hajipur Railway Station, discovered his young son missing the next morning. After a frantic but unsuccessful search, Sumit filed a written complaint, prompting the formation of an SIT.

CCTV footage captured a man and a woman lurking near the family before the abduction. Investigators then analysed mobile data from the area, leading them to a suspicious number linked to Arjun Kumar of Vaishali district, identified as the person who physically took the child. Another suspect, Kiran Devi of Vaishali, was also identified and arrested.

On the basis of their statements, four more accused were nabbed: Sonu Kumar, Anil Kumar Sah, Gudiya Devi and Munni Kumari. The kidnapped child was recovered safely from the group.

During interrogation, Sonu Kumar claimed the child was abducted for Rs 3.5 lakh on the instructions of Avinash Kumar — a doctor from Samastipur — and his associate Munni Kumari. Police said the payment was made through a mix of UPI and cash. The doctor fled after the arrests, and raids are underway.

Authorities are now examining the criminal histories of all accused and probing whether the gang has links to other child-lifting cases in the region.
