Puttur, Dec 12: Senior RSS leader Kalladka Dr Prabhakar Bhat has been granted anticipatory bail by the 5th additional district and sessions court, Puttur, in connection with a case filed against him for allegedly making communal and derogatory remarks against women during a public programme.

The case pertains to a speech delivered by Dr Bhat on October 20 during a Deepotsava event held at Uppalige. In her complaint, women’s rights activist Eshwari Padmunj accused Dr Bhat of making statements that were communally provocative and disrespectful towards women. Based on the complaint, police at the Sampya Police Station had registered a case.

Fearing arrest, Dr Bhat had approached the Puttur 5th additional district and sessions court seeking anticipatory bail. The court initially granted him interim bail, but during the hearing for regular anticipatory bail, public prosecutor Jayanti K Bhat raised objections to granting permanent relief.

During the proceedings, advocate P K Sateeshan, representing the complainant, requested that the complainant also be given an opportunity to present arguments. The court accepted the plea and allowed submissions from both sides.

After hearing detailed arguments from the prosecution, complainant’s counsel, and the defense, the court has now granted anticipatory bail to Dr Bhat. Advocate Mahesh Kaje appeared on behalf of the accused.
