Udupi, Dec 15: Dhaanya Muhurtha was held in preparation of the 2026-28 Paryaya of Shri Shiroor Math on Sunday, December 14 at the Udupi Sri Krishna Math.
Sri Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math will ascend the Sarvajna Peetha for the first time as the Paryaya pontiff in January 2026.
After completing the muhurta for akki, bele and kattige, the fourth muhurtha was held on December 14.
















As part of Dhanya Muhurta, morning mahapooja was offered to the Vithala deity of Shiroor Math, and the deity prayer was fulfilled. After that, a procession went to Chandreshwara, Ananteshwara, Shri Krishna Mukhyaprana Garuda offered prayers.
After coming back to the Shiroor Math, grain mudi was taken on head, short mudi on the golden palanquin and procession on the Car Street. Four mudi were offered in the Gadduge of Sri Krishna Math Badagumalige and worship was offered.
Paying respects to the representatives of different maths, sub-maths and scholars, giving Navagraha donation, the religious ceremony of Dhanya Muhurta was conducted.
On this occasion, a shikara was installed on the wooden chariot built near the Madhva Sarovara.
The tradition behind Dhanya Muhurata is the collection of grains to offer food to the devotees who come during the next two years of Shiroor Paryaya from January 17, 2026. The guests offered new grains to the plate with Navagraha thought and offered it to Lord Krishna.
Dewan of Shiroor Math, Uday Kumar Saralathaya said, “The Shiroor Paryaya of Sri Krishna Math, under Sri Vedavardhana Teertha Swamiji, will be the Swamiji’s first Paryaya, scheduled from January 18, 2026 to January 18, 2028. As a prelude to the Paryaya celebrations, we have successfully completed the Dhanya Muhurta. The grains donated by devotees are collected and preserved at the Shiroor Math. These grains will be used over the next two years to provide free afternoon meals to devotees. I request everyone to visit Sri Krishna Math and receive the blessings of Lord Krishna.”
Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna said, “The Paryaya invitation will be delivered to every household by our volunteers, and we are hopeful of receiving at least five coconuts from each home as offerings. On January 9, 2026, the Paryaya Swamiji will ceremonially enter Sri Krishna Math, followed by the Horakanike ritual on January 10. A grand procession will be held from Jodukatte, while another procession will take place from Kadiyali to Sri Krishna Math on January 9. There will be a 10-day cultural programme leading up to the Paryaya Mahotsava. This Paryaya will be celebrated on a grand scale, as the Swamiji is the youngest to receive this honour. The event will also witness the participation of international artistes.”
