New Delhi, Dec 29: The 2026 India Open is set to take place from January 13 to 18 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, boasting a seating capacity of over 8,000—more than double that of the previous venue. The move underscores the growing prominence of India’s premier international badminton tournament.
Organised by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) under the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the Super 750 event will feature some of the world’s top shuttlers, including An Se-young, PV Sindhu, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, and Lakshya Sen. Rising Indian talents such as Unnati Hooda and Ayush Shetty will also showcase their skills across six days of high-intensity competition.

Sanjay Mishra, BAI’s general secretary, highlighted the significance of the venue shift: “Moving the India Open to the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium this year marks an important step in the tournament’s evolution. The larger venue allows us to accommodate significantly more fans while delivering a better on-ground experience for players and spectators alike. As Indian badminton continues to grow in stature, it is essential that our flagship events evolve in step, creating spaces where the sport, the athletes, and the fans can all thrive together.”
The India Open, a key event on the BWF World Tour, offers up to 11,000 ranking points and carries a total prize purse of USD 950,000. The 2026 edition promises a bigger, more thrilling experience for players and audiences alike.
Tickets will be sold exclusively online, starting at Rs 400, with premium seats priced up to Rs 1,750. The initial ticketing phase runs until the end of December, offering the best discounts for matchdays including knockout rounds, while subsequent phases in early January will continue to provide affordable options leading up to the finals.
