Kuwait, Jan 4: On a cool and pleasant evening, members of Kuwait Kannada Koota recently gathered for the Annual General Meeting (AGM 2025) alongside vibrant celebrations of Christmas and the New Year 2026, creating an atmosphere of joy and reflection. Guests were welcomed with evening snacks and beverages, sharing laughter and memories before the programme commenced.
The evening commenced on a graceful and auspicious note with an invocation dance, exquisitely performed by the talented children of the Koota, perfectly setting the tone for the celebrations. This was followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp by the esteemed Executive Committee, led by president Tharendra Shettigar, vice president Dr Preeti Shetty, general secretary Dr Guruprasad Subbarao, and treasurer Manjunath Jogi, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the ushering in of knowledge and harmony. In his presidential address, Shettigar warmly welcomed the gathering and highlighted the diverse activities organized throughout the year. He commended the unwavering dedication of the committee members, the enthusiastic participation of Koota members, and the generous support extended by sponsors.




























The Executive Committee recognized the dedicated efforts of the subcommittee members including the Cultural, Public Relations, Marala Mallige, Sports, Technical, Finance and Design committees—along with the House Captains and Strategic Committees. Each was honored with mementos and certificates of appreciation, celebrating their invaluable contributions and commitment to the year’s success.
Children from the Chiguru Balli programme delighted the audience with vibrant cultural performances, showcasing creativity and enthusiasm. Special recognition was given to the teachers for their commitment to teaching Kannada and preparing the students. Revanasiddappa Hombali presented an overview of Chiguru Balli’s 2025 initiatives and outlined plans for 2026. Certificates for attending exam were presented to all Chiguru Balli students on this occasion, honoring their dedicated efforts in learning Kannada.
Former president Dr Surendra Nayak provided an update on the Kuwait Kannada Koota Welfare Association (KKKWA). He emphasized its role in supporting welfare activities in India and highlighted a recent mission where a delegation of Karnataka NRIs met with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. The delegation submitted grievances and proposals, receiving assurances of a dedicated ministry for NRI Kannadigas to address community concerns and provide diplomatic support abroad.
Manjunath Jogi presented the financial report for the year 2025, detailing the Koota’s income and expenditure. He emphasized the committee’s prudent financial management, which upheld transparency and accountability throughout the year. Dr Guru Prasad Subbarao delivered the Annual Report offering a comprehensive account of the initiatives undertaken by the Executive Committee in 2025. He highlighted the collective accomplishments across cultural, literary, sports, and technical domains that enriched community spirit and fostered active participation.
The final edition of Marala Mallige for the year, titled Sadhya Namana, was released by the editorial Marala Mallige team led by convener Alaka Jithendra and co-convener Rashmitha Praveen Shetty.
Elections for the 2026 Executive Committee were conducted by election officer Ananth Mangalgi in a fair and systematic manner. The newly elected committee includes Vikram Kunjibettu as president, Naveen Subbayya as vice president, Dr Rajesh Patil as general secretary, and Ravi C Narayan as treasurer.
The highlight of the evening was the award ceremony honoring the house that earned the highest points across sports, literary, and stage activities held throughout the year among the four houses—Kaveri, Hemavathi, Netravati, and Sharavathi. Hemavathi claimed the top position, while Sharavathi secured the runner-up spot.
The evening reached its grand finale with a live music concert featuring renowned playback singers Ajay Warrior and Airaa Acharya, accompanied by the masterful keyboardist Deepak Jayasheelan and percussionist Prakash Anthony. Their melodious voices, blended with the rhythmic beats of drums and vibrant keyboard harmonies, captivated the audience and filled the atmosphere with joy. The soulful renditions of Kannada film songs alongside energetic Bollywood hits had the crowd swaying, clapping, and dancing with delight.
Dr Guruprasad Subbarao wholeheartedly conveyed the vote of thanks, expressing deep gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful completion of programs throughout the year. He underscored the unwavering dedication of the subcommittees and volunteers, whose tireless efforts ensured the seamless execution of events.
Adding to the festive spirit, Santa Claus made a surprise appearance, delighting children and families by distributing chocolates and spreading cheer.
The programme concluded with a sumptuous dinner, leaving members with cherished memories and renewed enthusiasm as Kuwait Kannada Koota looks forward to 2026 under its new leadership.
