London, Jan 6: Chelsea have appointed Liam Rosenior as their new manager, signing the 41-year-old English coach to a six-year contract. Rosenior replaces Enzo Maresca, who left the club on New Year’s Day.
Rosenior is set to be on the bench when Chelsea face Fulham at Craven Cottage in a Premier League clash on Wednesday. He will conduct his first training session with the squad on Thursday.
The new Chelsea boss comes with international coaching experience, having led RC Strasbourg to European qualification for the first time in 19 years during his debut season. In England, Rosenior has previously managed Hull City and had coaching stints at Derby County under Phillip Cocu and Wayne Rooney.

“I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed head coach of Chelsea Football Club,” Rosenior said in a statement. “To be entrusted with this role means the world to me. I will give everything to bring the success this club deserves.”
Rosenior also emphasized his ambition to revive Chelsea’s current struggling squad. “My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies,” he added.
As a player, Rosenior had a solid career in the Premier League and Championship, featuring for clubs including Fulham, Reading, and Hull City. Now, he faces his most high-profile managerial challenge yet: restoring Chelsea to the top of English football.
Chelsea currently sit fifth in the 2025-26 Premier League table with 31 points from 20 matches. Their recent 1-1 draw against Manchester City on January 4 highlighted inconsistencies that contributed to Maresca’s departure. The Blues will look to start Rosenior’s tenure with a positive result against Fulham on Wednesday, January 7.
