Karkala, Jan 14: In view of the approaching fire season, trekking has been temporarily banned in several forest and wildlife areas under the Kudremukh Wildlife Division to ensure the safety of the public, tourists and trekkers.

The ban applies to trekking routes within Kudremukh National Park, Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary and Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary. The trekking routes where entry has been prohibited include Gangadikallu, Kudremukh Peak, Kurinjal, Valikunja (SK Border), Valikunja (Karvashe), Narasimha Parvatha (Kigga), Narasimha Parvatha (Malandur), Kodachadri (Valur), Kodachadri (Hidlumane), Bandaje–Volambra and the Netravati trek.
