Udupi, Jan 14: In a heartwarming act of community compassion, villagers in Karagunda under the Kadhinbailu Grama Panchayat have reunited 75-year-old Sharada, who had been living alone in a remote part of the village, with her daughters residing in another state.
Sharada had spent the past 35 years living in isolation in Karagunda. She would routinely visit the homes of villagers to collect meals. Recently, she had been suffering from mental and other health issues, and it was the villagers themselves who provided care and treatment during her illness.

Despite her children living elsewhere, Sharada had initially refused to leave her home to be with them. Concerned for her well-being, villagers informed the Department of Women and Child Welfare.
On Monday, in a touching ceremony, Sharada was finally sent to be with her daughters. The event was attended by Veeresh, officer of the Department of Women and Child Development, Sunil Kumar, vice-president of Kadhinbailu Grama Panchayat, panchayat member Vani Narendra, social worker Zubeda, and local residents.
This act of compassion has drawn widespread appreciation, highlighting the role of community in supporting the elderly and vulnerable, and ensuring Sharada could reunite with her family after decades of solitude.
