New Delhi, Jan 15: The Government of India has issued a strong advisory urging its nationals to avoid travelling to Iran due to the deteriorating security situation in the country. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in the advisory that Indian citizens are strongly advised against visiting Iran until further notice.
Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) residing in Iran have been advised to exercise heightened caution and avoid areas where protests are taking place. Those living in Iran on resident visas are also encouraged to register with the Indian Embassy in Tehran if they have not already done so.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran has provided emergency contact numbers for assistance: +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, and +989932179359. Queries can also be addressed via email at cons.tehran@mea.gov.in.
The Embassy further advised that Indian nationals currently in Iran—including students, pilgrims, business persons, and tourists—should consider leaving the country using available transport, including commercial flights. Travelers were also urged to keep their immigration documents readily available.
The MEA’s advisory underscores India’s concern for the safety and security of its citizens amid ongoing unrest in Iran.
