Washington, Jan 19: US President Donald Trump has invited India to be part of his proposed “Board of Peace” initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts, according to a White House statement shared on Sunday by Washington’s Ambassador to New Delhi, Sergio Gor, on social media platform X.
It remains unclear whether India will accept the invitation, with the initiative initially set to focus on the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi did not immediately respond to requests seeking its reaction.

The outreach comes at a time when India-US relations are facing strain, particularly over trade issues. Talks between the two sides have failed to yield an agreement that would reduce tariffs on Indian exports, which are currently facing levies of up to 50 per cent in the U.S., among the highest globally.
Trump has reportedly extended invitations to around 60 countries to join the initiative, including India’s neighbour Pakistan. Islamabad earlier said it would engage in international efforts aimed at peace and security in the Gaza region.
