Syrian govt, SDF agree to four-day ceasefire

Damascus, Jan 21: The Syrian government and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have agreed to a four-day ceasefire aimed at easing tensions and allowing humanitarian access in conflict-affected areas, officials said on Wednesday.

The temporary truce follows days of clashes and comes amid regional and international efforts to prevent further escalation. Sources said the ceasefire will facilitate the movement of civilians and the delivery of essential aid, while talks are expected to continue on broader de-escalation measures.

The SDF, which controls large parts of northeastern Syria, and Damascus have had strained relations despite occasional coordination. Observers said the ceasefire is fragile, with its success depending on adherence by forces on the ground.
