Thane, Jan 22: Police have launched an extensive search operation after two minor sisters and their 13-year-old niece went missing from their home in Maharashtra’s Thane district, officials said on Wednesday.

The missing girls, aged 13 and 14, along with their niece, are residents of Barave village in the Kalyan area. According to an official from Khadakpada police station, the trio left their house at around 5.30 am on Monday and did not return.

When repeated efforts to trace them failed, family members approached the police and filed a missing persons complaint. Acting on a tip-off, the police have dispatched a team to Lucknow to track the girls’ whereabouts.

A case has been registered under Section 137 (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway, the official added.
