Puttur: MDMA drug racket busted; four arrested, Rs 6.5 lac worth of cars & narcotics seized

Puttur, Jan 27: Puttur Rural police have busted a drug trafficking racket involved in the illegal consumption and sale of the narcotic substance MDMA in the Bettampady, Irde, Renja and Arlapadavu areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Puttur Rural police station, and arrested four persons in connection with the case.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Harshad (33), Mohammad Aarish (31) and Ibrahim Ashraf alias Roja Ashraf (46), all residents of Puttur. Police have also arrested Mustafa (46), a resident of Bantwal, who was allegedly supplying MDMA to the accused.

During the operation, the police seized approximately 6.39 grams of MDMA valued at around Rs 50,000, 0.87 grams of ganja, mobile phones, and two cars used for the commission of the crime, valued at approximately Rs 6 lac, along with other related articles. The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 6.5 lakh.

Following the seizure, a case has been registered at the Puttur Rural police station on January 24, under Crime No. 13/2026, invoking Sections 8(c) and 21(b) of the NDPS Act and Section 25(1B)(B) of the Arms Act.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Puttur Rural police sub-inspector Gunapal J. The investigation team included sub-inspector Sushma Bhandary and police personnel Murugesh Parameshwara, Satish, Subrahmanya, Harish, Nagesh, Bhavith Rai, Vinod, Nagaraj and Karthik. Members of the special team, including Adram, Prashanth M, Praveen Rai, Prashanth Rai, Harshith and Sampath, along with personnel from the SOCO team, also took part in the operation.
