Riyadh, Jan 28: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Riyadh will not allow its airspace or territory to be used for any military action against Tehran, Saudi state news agency SPA reported on Tuesday.

During a phone call, the crown prince reiterated Saudi Arabia’s support for efforts aimed at resolving differences through dialogue, stressing the need to strengthen regional security and stability.

Iranian media earlier reported that Pezeshkian welcomed any process, within the framework of international law, that could prevent war.

The Saudi statement comes after the United Arab Emirates also said it would not allow its airspace or territorial waters to be used for military action against Iran.

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues over the possibility of military intervention, after US President Donald Trump said last week that an “armada” was heading toward Iran, though he expressed hope it would not be used.

Two US officials told Reuters on Monday that a US aircraft carrier and supporting warships have arrived in the Middle East, expanding Washington’s military capabilities in the region.

Iran has recently witnessed widespread protests, with rights groups alleging that security forces killed thousands, including bystanders. Iranian authorities have blamed the unrest and deaths on “terrorists and rioters” backed by exiled opponents.
