Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 28: A lottery ticket seller from Kochi has emerged as an icon of ideology, having exhibited his determination to firmly stick to ideals of honest living, without getting lured by lust for money.

Peter, a lottery ticket seller from Kochi, could have pocketed Rs 40 lac and a new Innova car one of the tickets with him had won. But the fact that the ticket in question was bought by a migrant labourer without paying for it did not deter Peter from handing over the winning ticket to the labourer.

Peter has no income other than what he earns out of lottery ticket sales. A Tamil Nadu-based migrant labourer, Murugan, used to buy a ticket from his shop every day. On Friday, Murugan wanted to buy a ticket of Bhagyanighi Lottery scheme run by Kerala government, but he did not have money for the same. He said he would collect the ticket in the evening after making the payment. Murugan did not even know the serial number of the lottery ticket he had bought in this way.

In the evening, the ticket won the bumper prize of Rs 40 lac and an Innova car. Peter, knowing fully well that the ticket in question had won the bumper prize, simply handed it over to Murugan against the payment.

After learning about the incident, finance minister of the state, K M Mani, visited Peter at his shop to congratulate him for this extraordinary conduct. He hailed Peter for showing to the world that honestly is much more valuable than riches. The government also plans to felicitate Peter for his gesture.
