Pune, Feb 9: NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune on Monday for a medical examination after experiencing a persistent and worsening cough, coupled with some difficulty in breathing. The veteran leader was initially at his Baramati residence before being brought to the hospital for urgent evaluation.
According to his nephew, Shrinivas Pawar, Sharad Pawar’s symptoms intensified Sunday night, prompting immediate hospitalisation. Purvez Grant, head of Ruby Hall Clinic, has been briefed on the situation. Following initial assessments, Grant will decide whether Pawar needs to be admitted for treatment or can return home after receiving care.

His daughter, Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, is accompanying him at the hospital. A team of specialised doctors is closely monitoring his condition, and several diagnostic tests have already been conducted. The course of treatment and medication will be determined based on the results of these tests.
“The primary concern is a severe cough,” Dr. Grant said. “We will examine him and determine the necessary steps. Admission will depend on his clinical condition.”
Sharad Pawar has a history of health challenges, including oral cancer surgery before 2004, with follow-up treatments in India and the United States over the years.
The hospital visit comes in the wake of recent personal loss. Pawar had been travelling between Baramati, Mumbai, and Pune following the tragic death of his nephew and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash. During this period, NCP workers and office-bearers from across the state had been visiting to offer condolences.
The Ruby Hall administration confirmed that a careful evaluation is underway, and any decision regarding hospitalisation will be made after a thorough medical assessment.
