Guwahati, Feb 17: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced a 3 per cent reservation in Government Grade I and II jobs for tea garden and Adivasi communities, following a state cabinet meeting held at the Assam Legislative Assembly.
“The Assam cabinet has today decided to make a reservation of 3 per cent in Government Grade I & II jobs for Tea Garden and Adivasi people. Assam cabinet has today approved Rs 335 crore to establish the second Sainik School of Assam at Langvoku area in Karbi Anglong,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister said the cabinet also approved the Vote on Account for 2026-27 and authorised State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog to table it in the Assembly.
He further stated that the first instalment of Rs 10,000 under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme has been disbursed to 32 lakh women across the state. The cabinet also approved 1,03,500 new beneficiaries after identifying genuine applicants who had been left out earlier.
On infrastructure development, Sarma said several projects have received Union government sanction, though approval for the elevated corridor from Guwahati Airport to Jalukbari is still awaited.
He said the 121.43-km Guwahati Ring Road project will be implemented in three phases. The first 55-km stretch from Baihata Chariali to Sonapur via Kuruwa and Chandrapur will include a four-lane road, six-lane bridges, the 2.9-km Kuruwa-Narengi bridge over the Brahmaputra, along with multiple flyovers and road overbridges.
The Union and state governments will jointly spend Rs 5,729 crore on the Ring Road project, with Rs 7,000 crore earmarked for land acquisition. An additional Rs 6,957 crore will be spent under the Kaziranga elevated corridor project.
Sarma also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam in March to lay the foundation stone for the Silchar-Shillong-Guwahati high-speed corridor project.
